Suspend 2 on Sony hardware
Some Sony hardware seems to work fine. Others don't.
Models known to have problems are:
- Vaio R505
- Vaio SRX87
- Vaio GRT (Pentium 4)
Models known to work OK are:
- Vaio VGN-S2XP (Centrino)
- Vaio SR33
The problem appears to be with the APIC. Booting with the noapic option means that suspend / resume starts working (at least on the GRT machines). However, the sonypi module (which allows control of screen brightness and other things) doesn't like the noapic option. The solution is to disable sonypi in the kernel configuration, and use the sony_acpi patch from http://popies.net/sonypi/ (link at the bottom) which works just fine for brightness control.
